Hey, your biggest fan Steve here with a killer guest post from my private coaching client Jonathan Acosta from Get Sexy Boot Camps in San Antonio Texas.

You may remember Jonathan for being the dude who got 1255 NEW CLIENTS in one day from Groupon.com.

Well, he’s also getting a ton of new clients from Craigslist.

And when you read his guest post, you’ll understand why Craigslist is DEAD to some fitness professionals and kicking ass for others.

So without further ado, Here’s Jonathan Acosta

In the beginning, Craig Newmark created Craigslist………

In year 2009 Craigslist was pronounced DEAD!

The next year, on the 3rd day It rose again!

After that there was one person who was CHOSEN. The prophet Jen (my awesome girlfriend) was given 10 commandments to revive the way trainers advertise on craigslist.

Here are the scriptures of Jonathan:

( Ha ha that was pretty cool huh! Any way here are the 10 craigslist commandments)

1st Commandment -Have an attention getting subjectline

I know a subjectline is important as everyone already knows but, most trainers are doing it completely old school.

Heres an example:

Come join our #1 bootcamp….. Or you’ve seen, Best personal trainer in town.

That’s way better than some other ones that are plain like personal trainer or affordable bootcamp, but its still old school.

(The headline should be the number 1 reason why people click on your ad)

Try using whats hot right now, heres an example of some of our best ones:

Get A butt like kim kardashian in 30 days!….or another of our best, How Michelle Obama got those amazing arms (what 93% of trainers don’t know)

Those have been some of our highest clicked ad titles. Play with some headlines and find out what works for your area.

2nd Commandment -Once you have their attention then you have to deliver the content!

There’s nothing worse than having someone excited about your Subjectline only for them to click and get disappointed.

That’ll leave a bad taste in their mouth and anytime they see your posts they’ll automatically associate crap with your name.

Explain the title. Just in a few short sentences explain why your services differ from the others out there or address their problems.

Heres another example:

“Attention your city ! At the moment hundreds of you are annoyed by the way you look and feel, well I’m here to ask you, if given the chance would you be willing to trust me as I help you achieve all your weight loss goals?”

3rd Commandment -Let then know it’s all about THEM.

People dont care if you’re NASM certified or were in the army or a pro bodybuilder.

They wanna know if you care about their goals and their results, so for once dont talk about yourself.

4th Commandment – Have TESTIMONIALS!!!!!!

With all the scams out there most people need to see proof.

Your testimonials are going to be your biggest tool to getting new clients.

Before and after pics are awesome, its hard physical evidence that you know your sh*t!

Even if you dont have any before and after pics use written testimonials and just put a pic of your client next to it.

I know its not a before and after pic but it takes the whole scam aspect out of prospects mind, theyre able to put a face to a testimonial.

5th Commandment – Know your ideal client

It sounds rough but sometimes this really works. Point out some of your prospects insecurities or flaws. If you know your target market is self concious about their butt then address it.

Write something like “ever wonder why your butt doesnt look like kim kardashians? Wanna know how yours can look the same without cosmetic surgery and at a fraction of the cost?”

It hits their hot buttons. Thats where you wanna be.

6th Commandment -Have a CALL TO ACTION

You have to have a HUGE call to action. Preferably something low barrier like a FREE week trial or Try a week for only $1 call now.

Put your phone number down and have them call you instead of email, it makes it way easier.

Also give them the option to text, lately what we’ve found is alot of people are more comfortable texting to find out info. Youd still wanna set up a phone call but its all baby steps.

7th Commandment -Use Scarcity

Create scarcity. Now this can work awesome for you if you do it right, or it could backfire if you do it wrong.

Ive seen so many other trainers ads who put the same boring “call now our spots are filling up fast”. Or “hurry only 7 spots left”, and that same trainer puts the same ad a week later.

It makes it look like nobody wants to join your program.

At least if youre gonna do that change the number the next time you post the ad.

Try to make your reason relatable like saying hey my facility only holds 13 people (15 max but it gets crowded) so this program is only for the next 13 people.

Then it gets your prospect to think your in demand and people are crowding to work with you.

8th Commandment – Use subliminal images

Subliminal images! They work.

A lot of people overlook them and dont see them as a big thing but they are important. Put a picture of a beach as your background if your prospects are looking to get fit for summer.

Or a finish line if your prospects are marathon runners. A good one that has worked for us is if you target moms then put a background image of women playing with their kids and having fun.

It automatically gives your prospect a need to become healthy to keep up with their kids.

9th Commandment – Keep your ads related to the place you post it. If youre facility provides FREE childcare then post on childcare and put something like “FREE childcare, now you have no excuse!”

Or one of the best ones Jen created was “A,B,C,D,E,F, G, We offer childcare all for FREE!” Then the rest of the ad said something like Q,R,S,T,U,V, come workout and you will see!

If you post under vacations then post something like “So your going on vacation huh? Is your body ready?”.

10th Commandment -Post your ads like a mad man! You have to create a couple of accounts to do this but it helps. Keep posting multiple times in the day.

It always helps to be the first one your prospect sees.

BONUS: The 11th commandment is to make sure your ad is an image. It makes it easier to post multiple times and not get flagged.

If you can’t make an image ad, then find someone who makes them.

This is one of the most important things.

Hey, Steve again…

The most killer info in the world doesn’t mean squat unless you take massive action on it.

And to be SUPER COOL, Jonathan has offered to give his personal email to you if you have any questions…

You can email Jonathan Acosta at jacosta_fitness@hotmail.com and be sure to leave him a comment about what you thought about his post.

First, I’m going to hang with my BFF and fitness marketing genius Bedros Keuilian.

We’re gonna take his new GTR super car out for a spin.

(Check out the pic I snapped of him gazing at it right before he bought it… I had the same look when I picked up my Vett

And second, my friend and fitness celebrity Dustin Maher is releasing his new Fitness Media Dominator course.

When it comes to getting in the media, this guy is DA MAN, and he’s gonna reveal all his secrets here

But right now, I want to give you five simple, powerful and proven boot camp exploding strategies that you can DO RIGHT NOW to blow up your boot camp.

#1 The Six Week Body Transformation Blitzkrieg

This is what I call, “Picking the lowest hanging fruit.”

You’re gonna call and email all your past clients, leads, and even friends and use the script below.

Hi (name) this is (your name) from (Your company).

I was calling to check and see how you are progressing with your fitness goals? (Ask questions, take notes)

Well, I think I have something that would be perfect for you.

Right now we are running a six week total body transformation where we get serious and completely transform your body in six weeks.

I’ve discounted it to just $249 bucks for the whole six weeks, before and after pictures, body fat measurements and your customized nutrition plan.

I started out with 20 spots and most of them are filled and I have about 200 more calls to go so I’m sure they’ll be gone today.

Would you like me to count you in?

Great, I just need to confirm some information to secure your spot.

- Is this still your correct email address…
- What time works best for you (time) or (time)
- What day works best for you (Day) or (day)
- Great, so I have you down for (Day) at (time), and I’ll send you a conformation email with driving directions to (their email)

- And since I only have a few spots left, which credit card would you like to use to hold your spot… It won’t get charged unless you don’t show up or cancel without give us at least 24 hours notice, in which case there will be a $49 dollar one time charge.

(Confirm everything, congratulate them and tell them you are so glad you called)

When they come in… Make sure you get their payment info and explain that after the six weeks is over, they will automatically be debited monthly for your regular program.

#2 The Charity Drive Referral Raider

9 out of 10 fitness professionals do this COMPLETELY WRONG.

The objective is NOT to see how much money you can raise for a local charity (Although, when you do it right you will raise a nice chunk of change for your charity)

The goal is to use the “charity drive” angle to get you in the door with 20 to 30 local businesses.

In other words, explain to them that over the next 30 days you will be raising $2000 dollars for a local charity (go in to detail about the charity, especially if it helps kids in need) by donating $100 dollars for everyone who participates (that’s code for joins your boot camp) over the next 30 days.

Ask them if they would be willing to put your advertisements up for the next 30 days.

After they say yes, offer the owner/manager/staff 30 days of your boot camp for free (make them Human Billboards)

After the charity drive is over, offer to let them continue training for free in trade for keeping your advertisements up at their store.

Here’s the math… 30 businesses X’s 1 referral a month = 30 referrals a month

#3 Get 10 Human Billboard Elites

Here’s how to make a quick $3000 in one week.

Call people who may not be able to afford your boot camp, but have good energy and would really want to do it.

Offer 10 of them to participate in your boot camp for $50 bucks a month if they promise to try their hardest to refer one friend a month.

Let them try the first workout for free then tell them that you will give this special deal to them for 6 months…

(the math) 6 months at $50 a month paid up front is $300 bucks.

$300 bucks X’s 10 Human Billboards is $3000.

Very nice!

#4 The Body Fat Table Client Getter

Walk into places like high traffic healthy grocery stores and offer the manager free boot camp.

Ask if it would be ok to set up a table right outside the store to do free body fat testing.

Use a “pound of fat, pound of muscle” prop to get peoples attention.

Put the fat and muscle prop in their hand and ask them to guess what it is.

Then put the Omron Hand Held Body Analyzer in their hands and tell them you will let them know how much fat and how much muscle they have.

Show them on a chart where they stand body fat wise and what the health risks are.

Have them fill out a form with their name, email, phone number and fitness goal to enter to win a free month of fitness.

Then follow up, follow up, follow up!

#5 Get In the Media

No one is better at getting on TV and turning that into a $700,000 a year business better then Dustin Maher

This guy is ABSOLUTELY KILLING it by constantly being featured on TV, in news papers, in magazines and on the radio.

Check out his step-by-step blue print here.

Now get out there and DOMINATE!

Dedicated to your continued success,

Steve

Let me know what ya think below

Dustin has a pretty amazing story going from living in a run down trainer park, to being on pace for nearly 7 figures with his boot camp business.

He owes a lot of his success to being a local fitness celebrity.

(I mean the guys been featured on television like 87 times)

So without further ado, here is Dustin and his top 16 things NOT do do if you EVER want to become a fitness celebrity.

Enjoy

Having built my fitness business up from 3k/month to close to 50k/month in less than 3 years without spending a dollar on advertising (well actually I did spend $125 on an add once in a local magazine), I feel like I have earned the right to speak on today’s topic.

I don’t know a more effective way to grow a fitness business and create a cult-like following better than being everywhere your potential clients look.

What I mean by that is when THEY are watching TV, I AM ON THE NEWS.

When they are reading the paper, I have a column or am on the front page.

When they are listening to the radio, I have my “ask the expert show” call in show.

When they open up a local magazine, I have a story written about me or from me.

Can you see how powerful that is? Also think about your current clients, they see you all over too… Do you think they would ever want to train somewhere else? Probably not.

In my upcoming Fitness Media Dominator coaching program I am going to coach you and guide you through the many steps it takes to get tons of FREE publicity through TV, and other media sources.

But if you DON’T want to get on the media endless amounts of times, follow these steps.

However, If you do, just do the opposite.

16, Assume that just because you think you have the greatest fitness program in the world, that the media will think the same.

15. Contact a reporter and producer and try to convince them why they should feature your business over the 50 other fitness businesses in your area.

14. If you get a TV segment and show up with NO energy and NO visual props… never get asked back on.

13. Thinking your program appeals to everyone and being very generic.

12. Sending out a press release saying something like, “New Bootcamp Studio Just Opened Up, Better Than any other Training Program in XYZ (Your City).

11. Stalking the news reporters and producers and calling them everyday, bugging them to get you on TV, radio, or magazine.

10. Pitching the producers with topics like, “5 Different Ways To Do a Bicep Curl.” Very boring!

9. Making cold calls to the media instead of getting to know them first or getting introductions from clients or mutual friends.

8. Not understanding that the media only cares about 1 person, and that is their customer base which is viewers, listeners, and readers (well that is hopefully more than 1, but you know what I mean)

7. Sending 1 press release out and when not hearing back from anyone, assuming that they don’t want anything to do with you.

6. Only going after 1 source of media.

5. Not having a specific plan of action to follow up with each media contact.

4. Sending your press release or story idea to EVERYONE who is related to the media.

3. Be FAT! This is pretty obvious, but if you don’t look like a trainer, sorry.

2. Thinking that having a static boring website with no social proof won’t make a difference when trying to get the attention of the media.

And finally

1. Not having someone there to help guide you through the process who has come before and already done it.

Be sure to leave Dustin “The Fitness Media Dominator” Maher a comment below with your feedback and comments.

Hey – Steve here with something pretty important I want to talk about.

It has to do with the “fear” of fitness marketing and hiding behind your computer.

After mentoring hundres of fitness professionals, there is ONE REASON that 99% of trainers FAIL.

And that reason is:
Not intelligence
Not knowledge
Not experience
Not certifications
And Definitely NOT education

It’s the one of the worst FOUR LETTER WORD in the english language…

FEAR.

That’s right… Trainers all over the world a scared outta there minds about going into businesses, talking to strangers and even making phone calls.

So because it’s outside their “comfort zone” they decide to hide behind their computers and post craigslist ads all day telling themselves that because they are “busy” doing “stuff” they are being PRODUCTIVE… NOT!

Well guess what amigos, that’s not gonna cut it, (Not if you want to make $100,000 or more a year)

But the good news it that your old pal Steve is gonna show you how to CRUSH your fears by “reframing” them.

Here’s an example…

When you get on a rollercoaster, you ASK to be scared – You want to feel fear.

You love it because you’ve decided it would be fun.

BUT, imagine if you suddenly felt that same awesome adrenaline and butterflies in your stomach while your sitting in your car stuck in traffic.

You’d probably freak out and maybe have an anxiety attack… You’d be like, “when is this going to stop, I hate this feeling!”

This is called “FRAMING”

Framing is when you take one experience and look at it in a different light to create a different experience.

So why am I bringing this up?

Because just marketing on the internet is simply not enough… You have to get “get out there” and actually INTERACT with influential people and businesses in your community.

I mean, google can change its SEO algorithms at any time and you can no longer be on the first page.

Facebook can triple it’s advertising prices

Craigslist can, and pretty much has, gotten over saturated.

But RELATIONSHIPS and CONNECTIONS with REAL PEOPLE wont go away anytime soon.

For example, if you use my “Referral Charity Drive” method to get your high conversion post card ads in 30 local businesses, and those businesses end up refering you just one lead per month…. That ends up being 30 leads a month.

But if that “little voice” in your head say, “Uhhhh that’ gonna be uncomfortable… I can’t do that… booooo hoooo” AND if you actually listen to that little voice and DO NOT do what you KNOW is going to make you money just because you’re scared… Then you are LEAVING PILES OF MONEY ON THE TABLE.

So how do you destroy this fear?

You “reframe it” AND ask for it.

Here’s a what I mean…

I used to be TERRIFIED of public speaking, and the more I tried NOT to be scared and feel “fear” the worse it got.

So to vaporize my fear, I REFRAMED it into EXCITEMENT.

Remember how I said earlier that the feeling of being on a fun rollercoaster and the feeling of having a terrible anxiety attack are the same feeling, the only difference is the rollercoacter is “framed” in your mind as fun and the anxiety attack is “framed” in your mind as horrible.

…And you ASKED to be scared on the roller-coaster.

So when I do public speaking I ASK to be scared… I want to feel “fear” only I REFRAME it into excitement and adrenaline and then I go out on stage and bring ridiculous amounts of ENERGY and kill it.

Fear is kind of like the boogie man or Freddy Kreuger from the movie A Nightmare On elm Street, the more you fear him and run from him, the stronger he gets… But when you say, “Freddy, you’re not real, your just a dream, YOU’RE NOTHING!” he fades away.

So if YOUR letting FEAR limit you income (be honest with yourself) then STOP, REFRAME and ASK!

(I’d love to hear your thoughts below)

Facebook is a power “spoke” that should be on your “marketing wheel”

In fact, if your not generating new clients on facebook then you’re missing out big time.

Just today I was on the phone with my man Josh and he told me that he is getting about 10 leads a day off Facebook and he’s only spending around $30 bucks a week to get them.

Anyways, I’ll let Josh tell ya all about it…

Guest post by Joshua Carter:

Hey Josh Carter here….

It can be intimidating. I know that. My kids have figured out the real truth (and are apparently immune to my tactics) but with everyone else I can still use it to my advantage.

Like the servers at Baja Fresh, I give them a “Hulk” look and politely say ”I said EXTRA chicken…”

Next thing you know, extra chicken.

I use it in bootcamp too: “I said 15 reps..” ( even if I really said 10.)
Next thing you know, 15 reps.

Yeah, being intimidating can be cool. But being intimidated can truly suck. I will admit that it happened to my once and I didn’t care for it

It *really* sucks when people are intimidated by technology. For instance I know grown, intelligent men and women who are afraid to even join Facebook because they think it is too complicated (let alone advertise on FB).

So it is even worse when you let intimidation affect your business. Too many trainers are intimidated by new and very cool advertising opportunities because they involve a computer.

There are of course scams out there, but not Facebook.

And I’ve got some good news:

I am a nerd. (shh, it’s a secret)

Wait, is that good news?

It is for you (me, eh, not so much). I have shot an exclusive video for my buddy Steve Hochman and his readers on how you can use the new “Quick Ad” feature on Facebook to instantly create ads that pull in new clients and leads in minutes.

Yes, minutes.

You can now use my nerd status to your advantage (wish I could.)
Enjoy and post below with any questions.

Now go kill it!
