Why It's cool to think BIG Like Starbucks

Posted by stevehochman on Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

picture-201Ya know how Starbucks is EVERYWHERE and EVERYONE knows about it?

Well it all started with a thought… An idea… A dream

Here is the Startbucks original mission statement:

“To establish Starbucks as the premier purveyor of the finest coffees in the world while maintaining our uncompromising principles as we grow.”

The keyword here is GROW.

And the dude who founded Starbucks, Howard Schultz,  knew all about that.

FILES-JAPAN-US-STARBUCKS-FORBES-SCHULTZHere is a quote about what makes him tic:

“I wanted to be in charge of my own destiny,” says Howard Schultz. “It may be a weakness in me: I’m always wondering what I’ll do next. Enough is never enough.”

Now that’s a dude that who was thinking BIG.

But why can’t this be you… WHY?

It can!

What’s so different about Howard Schultz from you?

Did he come from rich family?

Nope… He was born in 1952 and raised in a Brooklyn, N.Y., housing project.

THE PROJECTS!

So then why is Howard able to go from the getto projects to multi-billionaire status?picture-31

There’s  a very good reason and I explain it at the Fitness Info Summit on October 23-24.

And there’s no reason you can do the same thing with your fitness boot camps.

With the right mindset, you can have multiple boot camp locations… From Dozen to hundreds.

(Of course, that’s not gonna happen if your planning on just having one location)

Ok… So how do you know if you are qualified to think big?

Answer these 5 questions:

  1. Are you PASSIONATE about what you do?  (Cuz if fitness training is just a job to you, you’re in the wrong biz)
  2. Are you willing to learn from people who have created the success that you want (Cuz that’s the fastest way to slingshot you to your dream)
  3. Are you prepared to feel fear and doubt and DO IT ANYWAY!?
  4. Are you willing to not take NO for an answer?
  5. Are you ready to let NOTHING stand in your way?

If you answered yes to all five questions, then congratulations, you are illegible to THINK BIG!

Talk about thinking big… Multiple location Fit Body Boot Camp owner Leanne Ellington knows about this type of thinking first hand…

When we first met she was hesitant and scared…  But after applying some powerful mind set techniques, after only a few months she owns 2 rockin Fit Body Boot Camp locations taught my OTHER trainers!

Michael Duivis is another example of a big thinker… I remember when that crusty fear and doubt had a strangle hold on him…

Now he is opening up his fourth Fit Body Boot Camp location!

All cuz of a mind shift….

I go WAY in depth at the Fitness Info Summit, but here is A HUGE TIP!

Ya know how if you were in a sports car, and put the petal to the metal, you would feel invisible forces pushing you back.sumo

Well that’s just nature trying to make you stay put… Or at least not accelerate so fast.

But you understand these invisible forces, and know they are directly related to you slamming the gas pedal down…So you don’t worry about it (you may even like it)

Your brain works the same way nature does…

Here’s what I mean.

Your subconscious mind does not know the difference between a thought, and doing something in real life…

So when you think about achieving something big, the part of your brain called the Cyco-Cybernetic mechanism thinks it’s really happening and sounds and alarm causing fear and doubt hormones to flood your body.

These powerful hormones can stop fitness professionals in their tracks and kill their dreams.

So here are two things you can do RIGHT NOW to overcome this.

thumbsup_steve_whitebackground1.  Visualize yourself doing what ever causes you fear and doubt… Since your brain can’t tell the difference between a thought and real life, with repetition, you can trick your brain into not feeling fear… (You wont fear something your brain thinks you do all the time)

This totally works!

I used to be terrified of public speaking.

So a couple of weeks before FBS09, ever day I would stand in front of a poster of a croud and visualize giving a kick ass presentation.

When it was time for FBS09, my fear had vaporized.

2.  Get exited bout feeling fear… Know that it just means you’re moving forward towards you goals… Learn to like it… To look forward to it… To turn it into EXCITEMENT!

  3. Wow, can’t believe I’m getting mentioned on one of my favorite blogs. Yeah whatever fear you have at the moment….you’ll HAVE to go through it soon enough.

Steve I must say though, if it wasn’t for you, Chris, Bedros, Sam Bakhtiar, Kaiser…(and David DeAngelo)…..I would NEVER be where I’m at right now.

  4. Would definitely recommend Michael Port’s “Think Big Manifesto” for anyone who is having trouble thinking big. This book, along with Steve, Bedros, Chris thinking big seems so small!

  6. Steve,

Awesome tip about visualizing what it is that causes you fear. Man, I am fired up. Talk to ya later.

    Thanks again,

    Chris

  7. Steve,
Your energy is contagious bro. Awesome analogy with the sports car and brain and the forces of nature etc. Visualization and implementation is key to one’s success, and no doubt getting excited about feeling fear is something that I need to work on personally. Take care & thanks for the great post.

  9. Hi Steve,
Keeping a positive mindset is imperative. I’m launching 2 new boot camp locations in a couple weeks and I’ve been getting those little “doubt” moments once in a while: wondering if the 21 human billboards I brought on are going to bring me qualified referrals every month; whether the parents at the gym facility will join…you know, those kind of doubt questions. Your site provides that inspiration to push doubt out of my mind. I know what my dream list is, what success means to me, how much I want to make and how many boot camps locations I want before year’s end – just why must our brains get in the way of everything?! -Sara

  10. Hi Steve-
I gotta admit you were the one who helped me control those “doubt” moments. Because of you I just keep on growing. People wonder why I am stronger mentally than ever before. And I tell them that I found a mentor that freakin through me outside my comfort zone. That you helped me believe that I can do anything I put my mind to. It’s cool that people see that energy in me. Keep up the killer posts!!!
