How To Be Fearless

Posted by stevehochman on Monday, August 17th, 2009

t5I’m going to tell you a story about how I became fearless, how it gave me the POWER to open up multiple six-figure boot camp locations, and the three things you can do right now, to achieve the SAME THING!

Now this is a really personal subject for me, but after meeting a ton of the cool fitness professionals that read my blog, I feel like where family so I can open up to you… (Plus my therapist says it’s good for me :-)

So here goes

14 years ago (in a past life it seems) way before I had multiple six figure boot camps locations and a successful group training studio, I was controlled by fear.

I’m talk’n EXTREME FEAR

So here’s the story…

Back in college, I was going through a pretty stressful time (Blew out my ACL, some crappy family stuff, and mid-terms)

I got like no sleep for 48 hours studying (Cuz I have add it takes me a long time) and I had my last mid-term in a couple hours so my friend told me to take a couple of caffeine pills and I would be fine.

I probably just should have had some coffee but at the time, I never drank the stuff.

Well, when all the caffeine form the pills hit my system my chest tightened up, my heart started pounding and and almost blacked out.

I thought I was having a heart attack but it ended up being a major anxiety attack.

Well something snapped in my brain because from that day on, all my fears felt totally exaggerated.  (The doc told me I “broke” the part of my brain that manages fear)

5tLike the smallest thing that would normally be no big deal (like meeting a new person) made me have total anxiety.

I let it get so bad that I slowly began to stop doing anything that would make me feel that way…

And before I knew it, I made myself a prisoner in my own dorm room (I hardly left my room, and when I did, I got back there as fast as I could.)

I’m telling ya… It was a pretty dark time in my life as I went from being an All-American athlete to feeling like a total wuss-bag, barricaded in my dorm room.

To make a VERY LONG story short, I leaned two thing that changed my life forever.

How to turn your worst fears into putty in your hands… and , that the #1 reason why people do not (and will not EVER) have the life, business and money they truly want is because of FEAR.

How To Get Outta That Rut!

I don’t know about you, but I DO NOT want to hear some boring story about someone who was born into a rich family, had no struggles growing up,  got everything handed to them, had all their business ventures effortlessly explode with success, and who never had there back against the wall when the shit was hitting the fan.

222I can’t relate to that.

Before I cracked the code to building multiple 6-figure boot camps, I was the homeless underdog kid sitting in special-ed dreaming of one day being rich and getting massive respect.

My best friends, Bedros Keuilian, and Chris McCombs had to scratch and claw their way to the top too.

They made it because of their drive, passion, focus, thinking positive and a no-retreat-no-surrender, never-say-die, take-no-prisoners attitude.

I seem to attract these types of kick-butt go-getters into my life and Leanne Ellington is NO EXCEPTION!

I’ve personally seen her struggle with her own DARK DEMONS,
and kick their asses straight to the curb.

That’s why, when she sent me this guess post,
I had to share it with you…

10 Ways To Know If You Walk the Walk?

Posted by stevehochman on Sunday, August 9th, 2009

wtThe advice you give to your boot camp members to get FITNESS RESULTS, is the same advice that YOU should be following to get BUSINESS RESULTS.

As a fitness professional you already know how to set goals, make a plan and achieve SUCCESS – You do it everyday with your boot camp members.

But I want to know…

Do YOU walk the walk, or just talk the talk….

Here’s what I’m mean -

  1. When a boot camp member starts a new fitness program, you tell them that they may get very sore at first, because there body is not used to working out, but with a little consistency, they wont feel that intense soreness anymore.

Do you “walk the walk” when you feel the “pain” of a new business or trying new strategies that take you outta your comfort zone?

  2. 56Sometimes clients feel faint, turn ghost white or even puke… And you tell them that it’s totally normal… Don’t worry about it.  That feeling will go away.

Do you  “walk the walk” when it comes to feeling really uncomfortable about trying new things in your business?

  3. When your boot camp members “beg for mercy” because it BURNS, you tell them to “suck it up” and give you another rep… C’mon DO IT! Do you  “walk the walk” and press on when it comes to feeling tired, burnt out, or having low energy – Do you force yourself to make one more phone call, get one more human billboard, or keep your energy up for one more group of clients?
  4. When your clients eat crappy foods, you tell them to empty their fridge and cupboards of all the junk, and  fill them with healthy foods. Do you  “walk the walk” when it comes to surrounding yourself with positive people, and getting rid of all the “junk”? Continue Reading 10 Ways To Know If You Walk the Walk?

5 design mistakes that may be costing you thousands on your Websites and Craigslist Ads

Posted by stevehochman on Monday, August 3rd, 2009

lou

My brother David has been helping dozens of fitness professionals get hundreds of  boot camp members with his CraigsList Dominator.

But Im gonna let you on on a little secret…

He’s such a powerhouse because of his evil marketing design genius girlfriend.

Her name is Lou, and I talked her into spilling the beans on her marketing design secrets.

So without further ado…

Here is Lou and her killer marketing design tips.

Enjoy -

Unfortunately, design is often overlooked when it comes to CL ads and websites. You can have the best copy in the world, but if it isn’t designed for your target audience, they’re not going to spend a second reading it. Here are 5 simple design tips you can apply to your CL ads or website and dramatically increase your profit.

1. No Design001

Just like good sales copy, design is what makes people buy things. It’s what makes them decide, within seconds, whether or not they can trust you and your business. We’ve all looked through Google and came across a website that made us hit the back button before reading a single word, and never give it another thought again. Same goes for CL ads.

If you’ve looked through Craigslist at least once, there’s no way you haven’t seen them – “paragraph” ads with the same font/color/size. It takes SO much effort to read an ad like that – it’s almost like reading a book. That’s why most people don’t even bother. Let me put it this way: people appreciate when you make an effort to make things easy for them. They show their appreciation by reading your ad and giving you a chance.

2. No Visual Hierarchy

Which brings me to some practical things you can do to make sure someone clicking through CL ads becomes a potential client. One of those things is visual hierarchy. In the design world, Visual Hierarchy is a fancy way of saying that you should be able to see a difference between the more important things and less important things.

So, a headline, for example, should be the biggest thing on the ad. The sub-headline should be smaller, and the paragraph text should be even smaller. Along with size, color is another way to show your readers what is more and less important.

Here’s a simple example of good visual hierarchy:

The reason it’s so easy to read the text above is because the headline, subhead, and paragraph text don’t compete for your attention, so your eye can naturally flow through them.
