Why The Hell Does Having A "Theme" Blast Your Boot Camp Sales Through The Roof?

Posted by stevehochman on Friday, March 20th, 2009

p18-1Ok, let’s jump right into this one…

Boot camp marketing and bringing TONS of friggin “energy” are WAY important when it comes to crank’n out six-figure boot camps.

So, what the hell does having a “theme” for your workouts have to do with anything?

Darn good question.

Here’s just a small handful of the benefits you reap from doing what I call “theming” your boot camp workouts.

  • Clients work harder so they get faster results.
  • More referrals… WAY more!
  • You’ll get mega respect from your clients.p18-2
  • Your boot camp workouts will “flow” much smoother.
  • You’ll build MASSIVE trust and rapport with your boot camp members.
  • You’ll “stay in your client’s head” all day.
  • You’ll become a topic around the “water cooler” at your clients work, resulting in referrals up the yin yang.
  • You’ll be able to push and motivate even the most difficult pain in the butt clients.
  • You’ll set YOUR boot camps far apart from other, way less cool, boot camps.
  • You’ll look and feel WAY more professional and miles ahead of your “competition”

Here’s a little video for you to learn all about how to “theme” your boot camp workouts like a true fitness guru.

Enjoy -

Ps.  Be sure to leave a comment with anything you would like to see me post about to help you ROCK your boot camps to 100k+

  1. Hey Steve,
You are the man when it comes to this stuff! Is there a way to drive people to a certain time of the day? I currently run 3 camps per day. My 6 am camp has like three people in it but my other two are crankin! How can I drive interested prospects to this time?

  2. “Just because it has a crack in it doesn’t mean it’s broken” – frakin’ hilarious!

Steve, I’m going to text the theme for tomorrow’s bootcamp out right now! Thinking of… “The MILF Maker” (Stolen from @CarterFitness)

    How about Superhero Fitness?

  3. Hey Steve

    Great video mate…

The theme really connects with the bootcampers and appeals to their senses… anyone can bark orders at them… but by creating a theme you almost make them part of a story as opposed to just someone who follows orders..

    awesome stuff

  4. This is to respond to Steve’s comment #1. I got rid of my 6AM class. It was popular at one time before I had my 6:30Pm class but when I started 6:30PM the AM people wanted to switch.

Granted I am missing out on some income but I get more visibility during the PM in Central PArk.

I never even realized I had themes..

    I have…

    1) superheros day…where I name exercises after comics
    2) I hate this bastard instructor day (self explanatory)
    3) Booty Boot Camp ( i was going to buy the URL but the damn PORN industry beat me to it…I see some of you people opening another browser now to search it. Shame on you)
4)Animal Planet…calisthenics based off animals bear crawls etc

Mr. Hochman keep the killer info coming.

    PEACE,

    Nii

  5. I love it Steve.

This is something that I’ve done on and off in my boot camps but I truly see the importance of keeping a theme consistent.

Clients will come in wondering what the theme is for the day and ready to feel the energy.

Thank you for this post man!

  8. For Chris…if a time isn’t working…why keep it? I tried a camp at a certain time 6am and it wasn’t what the clients or potential clients wanted…so I x’d it! and came up with a mid morning camp as my area has more elderly and stay at home mom’s they didn’t want 6 am…so my advise is to find out a little more about your demographics and then provide them with what THEY want! and get ride of what’s not working:)

  9. Hey Chris!

Here’s what I do when ever open a new location to find out what times to offer…

I call it my “Chain Drive Method”

I go to the local Huge Chain gyms, like 24 Hour Fitness, La Fitness etc. and hang out at the times that I am thinking about offering.

I wait to see what aerobics classes are the MOST packed on a regular bases…

This is the fastest way to survey a local demographic…

BTW – To create buzz at the beginning and generate TONS of referrals, I use my Human Billboard Marketing method…

I select 10 to 20 of the chain gym members that are working out at the most popular time, to workout at my boot camp for free as long as they commit to referring 1 friend per month… (A great way to get 10 to 20 new paying members to your boot camp per month with out costing you a damn dime…

  10. Yo Chris! (Comment#1)

I offered a 6:30 am class and people started missing more classes, so I straight up asked what we needed to do. Short answer, they are all moms and they didn’t have time to get their kids and themselves ready aftr bootcamp.

So we switched it to 5am and it’s my most popular time.

    Stay frosty!

PS – Nii, I’m stealing your “I hate this bastard instructor day” – awesome.

  12. Yo Steve

Great Post. You nailed it when you said it’s the small things that makes a difference in your success.

I think a lot of people are just acting old or being old and just not having fun anymore. When there is games or themes it will bring the inter child out of them again and they will they will start having fun and feel like when they were in their younger years. That right there will bring everyone back to workout and they will tell all their friends and family because it’s goal oriented and it’s fun.

    Take care

  15. I have been doing the motivational themes every so often. Like
” Think about why you are here, how you want your body to look like, what your goals….etc, etc.-but all in a crazy energetic go! go! go! tone! That one gets ‘em going. But they love to hear what the theme is-seriously-some of them laugh so hard when I come out with some of the ones I come up with. I hope to one day be as creative as making it sound as good as you did with a pizza. Who’d a thought? Love your tips and thanks for posting that day I had bad PMS on your blog. Right back atcha, buddy. No, Kidding, you’re awesome! Oh hell yeah!

  19. Beach Ball BodyBuilder Day…

Brought in a big blown up Beach Ball. 2 Rules: No one can hold onto the ball and if the ball hits the floor, everyone stops and does 4 BodyBuilders (Squat Thrusts)… Just getting up and down from other positions (i.e., Scissor kicks over to 4 Bodybuilders) is exhausting… Plus you can have lots of fun.. Trying to see a large group trying to keep a ball from hitting the floor while doing Leg Lifts or Pushups…

    Thanks Steve!
